Marina Mustafa

“Every recipe is a letter from someone’s kitchen — a story of family, place, and the flavours that hold us together.”

My story

From kampung kitchens to bestselling pages

Marina Mustafa’s love affair with food began in the kampung kitchens of Perak, where she watched her grandmother transform simple ingredients into extraordinary meals. Those early memories — the scent of pandan, the sizzle of rempah, the warmth of a shared table — would shape the rest of her life.

After marrying into a family of passionate cooks in 1990, Marina immersed herself in the culinary traditions of her new home. She spent years learning recipes passed down through generations, each one a window into Malaysia’s rich multicultural heritage.

Her first cookbook, published in 1995, was a labour of love — a collection of the recipes she feared might be lost to time. Its success surprised everyone, most of all Marina herself. Twenty-six cookbooks later, she remains driven by the same simple mission: to preserve the flavours of home.

Beyond the page, Marina has spent 16 years as a beloved television presence, opened the iconic Café Diana, and taught thousands of students the art of Malaysian cooking. She believes that food is the most powerful form of storytelling — and every dish has something to say.

Beyond the kitchen

Family, faith & simple joys

Away from the cameras and cookbook deadlines, Marina is a devoted mother and grandmother. Her home in Kuala Lumpur is always filled with the aroma of something simmering — a pot of curry for visiting grandchildren, a batch of kuih for the neighbours.

She tends a small herb garden, collects vintage cookware, and spends her quieter mornings reading. She believes the best meals are the ones shared without occasion — just good food, good company, and gratitude.

“The kitchen is where I find peace. It’s where the world makes sense.”
